Campaign control · Exit offer
A last useful offer
When a reader looks ready to leave, the campaign offers one useful next step instead of a discount banner.

Four checks before you plan a new website
Most website problems are visible before any design work starts. These four checks take an afternoon.
Start with one sentence
Write down what a visitor should do after reading your homepage. If you cannot choose, the homepage is trying to do too much.
List the questions you hear every week
Your clients already tell you what the site should answer. Keep a list for two weeks before you plan any pages.
Check every contact route
Phone numbers, email links and forms break more often than anything else. Test each one from a phone.
Decide what you will measure
Pick two or three numbers you will actually look at each month, such as enquiries and calls, and ignore the rest.
Device behaviour
Exit intent differs by device
Browsers report very different signals on computers and touch screens, so the campaign uses a different cue for each.
Computers
The campaign opens when the mouse pointer leaves the page through the top edge. Moving to a side edge or switching tabs with the keyboard does not open it.
Phones and tablets
There is no pointer to leave the window, so Popup Engine watches for a quick upward scroll after about a third of the page. It does not intercept the back button, and slow scrolling will not open it. Use Open the offer now if it does not appear.
What this demonstrates
Make one useful offer at the moment someone is leaving.
01
Exit intent, honestly described
On a computer it reacts to the pointer leaving the top of the window. On touch screens it reacts to a quick upward scroll.
02
Frequency and dismissal
The offer shows once per tab visit, and closing it keeps it away for a day, so returning readers are not interrupted again.
03
Scoped to one page
Only this page carries the campaign. Moving to another page never triggers it.
